There are five senses. Yet there are only four here so far in my non-Bucket List list. There have been sight, sound, smell, and taste. Have you ever realised that most of your senses are located in the head region? The only one that covers more than just the head region is touch.
What is on my want-to-feel-before-I-die list? This:
- The Dead Sea keeping me afloat
- My grandbaby's soft skin
- The wind from a tornado as I chase the storm (with a professional, of course)
- Spray from the ocean on my face while sailing in the Greek Isles
- The silkiness of my daughters' wedding dresses
- Sheets made of silk
- Weightlessness
- Cool dirt while digging for truffles
- Spongy trails as the elevation increases on Denali
- My wedding rings on my left ring finger (they were cut off when I shattered the bone in my finger and won't be repaired until there is no more swelling in my finger)
That's also an update on my finger. The pins are beginning to hurt under the skin. They'll need to come out at some point. When I make a fist, my finger still sticks out at an odd angle. But physical therapy is continuing and small progress is made each week. As the professionals tell me, it may take a year before my finger is stabilized. And it may never be back to normal -- in size or in how straight it is.
Perhaps Number 11 on the list should be "a day without pain in the finger." But whining doesn't feel so good either. So we'll stop at Ten.
Going to a gym can be as much entertainment as it is exercise. On the main exercise floor are the gym rats. Don't forget about the older ladies in silent competition.Yesterday's vigorous session on the stationary bike and pirouette practice in the studio was followed by a relaxing stretching session. But what followed the stretching topped everything. As I rounded the corner from the stretching area to head back to the locker room, there was a gaggle of women peering through the windows which overlook the pool. What in heaven's name could draw such attention? A quick look and... Oh, well, then, that explains it! The pool was overrun with men! The women began to critique each and every one. I stood silent, taking in their comments and judging the validity of those comments for myself. Until it dawned on me that we were doing the exact same thing that men get called on the rug for - objectifying them. Down the the locker room I went. But passing the window and the women on my way out, I couldn't help but steal one last look. If only I could whistle.
Calling all friends, neighbors, acquaintances, blog buddies with pools! My poor overworked bod, sore from too much ballet, too much taking care of sick kiddies, and too few margaritas, needs some spa time. Hopefully something less expensive than a day at an actual spa.
Swimming pools just make so many activities more enjoyable. What better way to spend some time than at a boozy weekend throwdown for those of us who can’t afford a weekend in the Hamp’s? Okay, okay. You supply the pool, I’ll supply the booze. Hell, I’ll even supply the guests.
So, call me. I’m waiting to hear from you. Swimsuit and towel in hand.
